Recently, Kara contacted us about draperies for her house. Here’s what she shared about her in-home consultation:
What made you choose custom window treatments?
When I looked at purchasing panels in a catalog versus getting custom-made drapes, the cost wasn’t that different. And I worried that the window treatments ordered from a catalog wouldn’t look like I hoped or wouldn’t be the right size. I knew if I went with custom drapes they would be exactly what I wanted and would look perfect in my room.
Why did you use Midas Fabric?
In 2003, Midas Fabric made drapes for me in my previous house. I really loved them and was so impressed at how well they held up after being opened and closed every day for so many years.
Truth be told, a friend talked me into using her designer to do some other drapes in our house, and honestly I was not happy with the work. The window treatments didn’t hold up well and I was never crazy about the fabric used. So, when I moved into my current house, I knew I wanted to use Midas again.
How did the decorator at Midas Fabric help?
The decorator came to my house and helped in so many ways.
First, I knew I wanted drapes for my dining room but wasn’t sure which fabric to use. The problem was I didn’t love the gold fabric on my chairs but knew I couldn’t replace it. So I had to work with what I had. Luckily, the decorator suggested the perfect gray fabric with a subtle gold pattern to compliment the chairs. The fabric is gorgeous and classic … and I’m so happy with it.
And they made the same drapes for my bay window with a mitered rod so it looks like one continuous rod. It’s something I never would have been able to do on my own.
Also, she helped with the drapes for my family room. When we first moved in I wasn’t sure if I’d need window treatments in that room, but I’m so glad we added them. I love the way they look and they are so easy to open and close. Plus, they make the room much cozier and absorb a lot of the sound from my three kids.
Were you pleased with the experience?
A big YES! And I’ll tell you why.
I knew I’d be pleased with the look and workmanship of the custom window treatments, but they even went above and beyond when it came to installation.
So, when they first came to my house, they didn’t think they’d have room to put the rod and support above the frame because it was really tight with the crown molding in our family room. But when the installer came to put up the drapes he said he could just make it work. So the decorator took my draperies back to their store, lengthened them slightly and the installer came back to hang them.
You can’t see where they lengthened them at all and they didn’t charge me for the extra work because they wanted them to look their best. So, I really appreciate everything they did and feel very confident working with a company that truly has my best interest at heart.
Would you say it was worth the fee?
Yes! It was only $50 and the help was invaluable. Plus it gave me peace of mind. It’s worth every penny to use a professional who helps people every day and knows what will work and what won’t.
Would you recommend an in-home consultation?
Absolutely! To have someone else accurately measure my windows – especially the tall ones – was very helpful. And their advice on everything from fabric selection to type of window treatment to installation was completely worth it.
How do you feel about the final result?
I’m thrilled with all of my window treatments. They are beautiful and well made. The workmanship, customer service and quality are all outstanding. And the best part is I’ll get to enjoy my gorgeous draperies every day!
